In the spirit of never-a-dull-moment this summer, we have some coaching news to announce for the LHS team.
Our head coach last year, Andrew Wilson, is moving to California at the end of July to accept a position with Clovis as a water polo coach and teacher. While we are sad to see Andrew leave the LHS family, this is an amazing opportunity for him, and we wish him the best. Andrew led the LHS team to a very successful year in 2013, and for that we and the players all thank him.
The good news is that we have already hired a new coaching staff, and are very excited for the future. Please join us in welcoming Lisa Gibson and Tori Buck as our 2014 coaches for Lincoln water polo! Some of you may remember Lisa was to be our head coach last season before she was presented with the chance to play professional water polo in Spain. Others may know Tori from her work at the Tualatin Hills Water Polo Club, and as the head coach for Aloha the past two years.
We feel extremely fortunate to have Tori and Lisa as our co-coaches this year. Below is a little more information about them.
Tori Buck
Tori played water polo at Lincoln High School and at Tualatin Hills Water Polo Club. Tori attended Oregon State University, playing for the women's club, and then transferred to Portland State University, where she played three seasons. In her second season at PSU, she and others led the team to win the Northwest Division of the Collegiate Water Polo Association, playing in the National Collegiate Club Championship tournament. In 2011 Tori started assistant coaching at Lincoln and shortly after started coaching at T Hills for the 12U and 14U age groups. Tori coached at T Hills for three years, and was also the head coach of Aloha High School for the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
Lisa Gibson
Lisa Gibson, born August 12, 1989 in Chichester, England, began playing water polo at age 12 at T-Hills Water Polo Club. She played with Southridge High School and was two-time Metro League MVP. Her senior year, Southridge came first in the Metro League and second in state. At age 14 she tried out for the Great Britain Youth National Team and instead made the GB Junior team. Her senior national team debut was at the age of 17 in the European Championships. The highlight of Lisa's water polo career was competing in the London 2012 Olympic Games for Great Britain. After the Olympic Games, Lisa returned to Beaverton, Oregon, for shoulder surgery and during her recovery coached at T-Hills as well as played for PSU. In the summer of 2013, Lisa competed in the World Championships in Barcelona, Spain. She recently finished a season playing professionally in Mataro, Spain.
Both Tori and Lisa will be at the parents meeting on August 28 to talk about the upcoming season and to meet the LHS families. They will be in touch with the team prior to that to talk about the season and the pre-season workouts (which start on August 18). While we will all miss Andrew and Emily, we feel so lucky to have ended up with such great coaches in Lisa and Tori. This truly bodes well for a great 2014 season!
Welcome Lisa and Tori!
