2012 Pre-Season Information


Hello LHS Waterpolo Families,

We are opening our 2012 season with a great group of athletes.  This email contains with super important information in advance to 
help you plan ahead for the upcoming season which will begin Monday, August 13th.

The following info should prepare you well for the upcoming season:

Please mail the documents to me. DO NOT scan and e-mail.  All athletes must complete new paperwork, including RETURNING athletes.

1. Follow these steps/forms carefully!

2. LHS Club waterpolo athletes must have an approved physical exam and history completed by a qualified medical provider before participating August 13th.   The physical must be done upon entering 9th grade and upon entering 11th grade. Sometimes there are free clinics at providence and legacy. Please complete prior to August 13th and mail a copy  to Anita.

3.. All athletes must compete the attached updated clearance form for 2012.   Please complete prior to August 13th and mail a copy  to Anita. Just circle the year 2012.

3. As well,  a blue card will need to be competed the FIRST week of school and is required each year, which is signed by the athlete and parent/guardian.  These forms  are available in the LHS school office during school registration.  Please complete and turn into the coach the first week of school or at the parent meeting.

4. The pre-season schedule is attached.  All practices are at the MAC Club.   The first practice is Monday, August 13th at 6:45 pm.  
Please complete the attached Mac Waiver and Rules of Conduct.  Please complete prior to August 13th and mail a copy  to Anita. You cannot be at the MAC club without a  signed MAC Waiver.

5. Redmond planning is underway and deposits will be due soon to secure housing.  The week long intensive training camp is by invitation from Coach Jeff and Coach Lloyd.  The  estimated cost is $550. Details will be e-mailed to you on July 5th.  You will be asked to make a deposit by July 20th.  Preseason practice will finalize your invitation to  Redmond. The camp is from Aug 24th - Aug 31st.

7. Everyone must complete the attached registration for the 2012 season.  The cost for the season is $225.  The amount of $210 helps cover the expense of equipment, pool  time, registration and tournament fees, referee fees, coaches' expenses (please realize that our coaches donate their time); the remaining $15 is for the athletes dinner at the  awards banquet at the end of the season.  Please complete registration and mail a copy to Anita by August 13th.  The names in yellow on the roster need confirmation that you will be participating in waterpolo.

Make checks payable to "LHS Water Polo". Participation in a club sport such as water polo does not count toward Lincoln's maximum athletic participation fees. If your  student also plans to participate in a school team winter and spring sport, you will need to pay for those separately and won't get credit for paying for water polo.

Fees are due no later than Sept 1st. You may mail your check directly to Jim Claypool, Treasurer (and alumni parent - we are so lucky):

Any athletes who have not paid their fee by September 1, 2012 will not be allowed to play until their fee is paid (first game is TBD potentially September 4).

The team has some funds set aside for scholarships to help families who need assistance. In general scholarship assistance is available for families who qualify for the federal  free/reduced lunch program  but may also be made to families whose current circumstances require some financial help this season. To request a scholarship, please reply to me or discuss it the coach.  Scholarship requests/recipient information is kept confidential. 8. Parent Meeting ~ Our kickoff meeting will be on Friday, Sept 7th @ 6:30 pm at James and Anita Stark's Home, 4625 SW 53rd Avenue, Portland, OR 97221.  We encourage all
parents to attend to answer questions and to keep you in the loop and meet fellow water polo parents.   A great deal of information is covered at the meeting that is not  covered via e-mail or blog.   It is a very social gathering.
The meeting is for parents only ~ we will be covering Waterpolo 101 and beyond  ~ get educated and we will also talk about college and waterpolo!  The coaches love this stuff!!!!!

9. We MAY do another apparel order in the fall.  
If you were not included in the apparel/swimsuit orders in June please contact to order ~ the deadline to order is 7/10/12.

This is a lot of information to digest ~ we have made every attempt to provide you with all the information we know at the point.  And we wanted you to have it early this year.  If you have any questions ~ I am available ~ and this info will be posted on the Blog along with the forms.  

AND Congratulations to the LHS Team Captains for the 2012 Season.  They will be contacting athletes to find out what you are doing in and out of the pool to prepare for the season!
